Betty Wright. 

Born Bessie Regina Norris on December 21, 1953, in Miami, Florida. Was a powerhouse in the world of soul & R&B. Her career, which spanned over five decades, left an indelible mark on the music industry & continues to inspire artists of today. Betty Wright’s musical journey began at a very young age. She started singing with her family’s gospel group, the Echoes of Joy, when she was just two years old. By the time she was 11, she had transitioned from gospel to rhythm & blues, performing in local talent shows. Her talent was undeniable, & she was soon discovered by a Miami record label owner.

Her breakthrough came in 1971 with the release of her hit single, Clean Up Woman, which she recorded at the age of 17. The song became a massive success, reaching number two on the R&B charts & crossing over to the pop charts, where it peaked at number Six. This track not only showcased her powerful voice but also her ability to connect with audiences through relatable storytelling. Throughout the 1970s, She continued to release hits that solidified her place in the music industry. Songs like, Tonight Is the Night, &, Where Is the Love, Became Anthems of the era. She was known for her unique vocal style, particularly her use of the whistle register, which added a distinctive flair to her performances. In addition to her singing career, She was a talented songwriter & producer. She founded her own record label, Ms. B Records, in the 1980s & worked with numerous artists, including Joss Stone & Gloria Estefan. Her ability to mentor & nurture young talent was evident in her role as a vocal coach on Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, show, Making the Band
